Consider the postage stamp: its usefulness consists in the ability to stick to one thing till it gets there. ~Josh Billings
Last floral Friday I was testing a new macro lens, the Canon MP-E 65 mm. I had learned several thing about using this lens, including the use of macro rails, and what constitutes a good setup for success with this lens.
The other option I was considering was based on a piece I read by Markus Jais regarding using a 1.4 extender coupled with a 25mm extension tube. So, with the 65mm being returned on Monday, I awaited the arrival of the extender and extension tube on Wednesday. When it finally arrived, I assembled all the pieces with my 100mm macro, and anxiously pointed at the bouquet of flowers on my table. Depressing the shutter did not result in a photo, but a message: There is an error occurring between lens and camera. Please remove lens and clean mirror.
HUH? So we tried it with the other two Canons in the house. Didn’t work with them either. Bummer. But looking on the bright side, I wouldn’t have known this without trying, so I don’t consider this a complete waste, just a disappointment.
In the meantime, here are a few photos that I took with the 65mm before I boxed it up and sent it back.
Sweet! Nice work, Arnel and I love your attitude about it not being a complete waste, just a disappointment 🙂 That’s two lessons learned from you for the day. hugs
Hugs to you too! 🙂
And remember poor Edison, who found a thousand ways a lightbulb DIDN’T work, before he found the one that did!
Exactly!!! I loved the Billings quotes, Arnel…and Edison’s got a kick butt quote too based on his experiences with that bulb
Thanks! I liked it too! Hoping you are traveling and safe…
Arnel, your flowers made my [Fri]day once again!
…especially that Day Lily, exquisite!!!!
xxxxx
🙂
Thanks Marina! The day lily is my favorite too!
What incredible clarity and beauty .Diane
Thanks Diane!
gorgeous as always
Thanks Terry!
There’s something a bit intimate about flowers this close up…! Love them.
Thanks! I have grown to like them as well. It’s like revealing something hidden–that you have an idea of, but don’t really see until it’s magnified.
Exactly. I can imagine having a macro lens would set off a whole new series of photographic obsessions.
it did!
Amazing shots, Arnel. You must have been pleased with your experiments – ? So what is next step? Purchase?
Actually, I’m hoping the jolly ole fat man has one on his sleigh!
Oh gee, I hope the jolly ole fat man has been listening …;)
Me too! 🙂
And thanks! I was pleased. The lens is really amazing. I just wish it didn’t require other items as well for it to work.
